About Garry

“Listen to your life. All moments are key moments.”― Frederick Buechner

Therapeutic Approach
Garry provides a warm, welcoming and safe environment in which to explore problems in living.  He views each person as unique and worthy of respect and dignity, regardless of their values or beliefs.  He understands that we are complex beings, who are physical, emotional, rational, social and spiritual beings.
Garry takes a holistic approach in therapy.  He addresses the underlying issues to the current problem, whether they are recent or began in childhood. He helps clients learn and develop new and healthier ways of living.  Therapy may be brief, requiring only a few sessions, or longer if the problem is deep-seated or has affected the client for many years.  Garry draws on a variety of counselling therapies including Cognitive Behavioural, Family Systems, Attachment, and Emotion based therapies.
As a result of Garry's pastoral and business community experience, Garry understands the demands, challenges and stresses faced by pastors, business owners, managers and employees.  He has a heart for those who feel overwhelmed by their current situation or past experience.  He enjoys working with clients to develop healthy satisfying ways of living within their current context or helping them transition to new challenges and successes.
For those who are interested, Garry is a Christian counsellor who provides opportunities for integrating faith and spirituality into their lives.  He also enjoys working with those of other faiths or those for whom faith or spirituality are not important at all.  Garry understands that the counselling process is a collaborative effort which meets the client's unique needs and desires for healing and growth.

Garry received a Masters Degree in Counselling from Providence Theological Seminary in 2015 and a BA in Social Science from Providence University College in 1999.  He has 13 years of experience in pastoral ministry where he worked with people of all ages and life experience.  He also brings many years of experience in the retail business community to his work.  In addition to his degree training he has completed Levels 1 & 2 of Gottman Model Couple Therapy. He has been in private practice since 2015.

Garry is an independent psychotherapist at Rooted Counselling in Steinbach, MB.  He is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Counselling Psychology Department at Providence Theological Seminary.
Garry is a Certified Professional Counsellor in good standing with the Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists (PACCP).
